September Wardrobe Refresh Guide

Happy New Moon in Virgo!

September (otherwise known as Virgo season) might just be my favourite month of the year, bringing with it a renewed sense of structure, purpose and transformation.

Nature is busy swapping her extensive collection of florals and exuberant colours for sunset-golds and warm ambers, while the ground rusts orange beneath her feet.

Never has there been a better time to dive into our own wardrobes and reorganise our creations ready for the new season that lies ahead.

Below I have compiled a simple 6-step guide to help you refresh your wardrobes this coming weekend and make space for the new

1.

Create your magic mood board

Visually manifest your dream Autumnal style by spending a cosy hour creating a vision board. Use old magazines, photos or Pinterest to fill your board with ideas for the new season.

Where thought goes, energy flows...

Think about the intention behind your wardrobe cleanse. Do you want to make space? Curate your wardrobe differently? Dream up some new Autumnal outfits? Perhaps you want to build a more sustainable wardrobe?

Now is the time to set your intention. Write it down in the corner of your board along with any specific pieces you want to bring into your creation, ready for your next Treasure Hunt.

2.

The Creative Wardrobe Cleanse

Now it’s time to cleanse your wardrobe to make space for your new season looks.  You'll need to find a sorting space to lay out your clothes, shoes and accessories so make some space on top of your bed, on the floor in your bedroom or if you have one, set our a spare rail for organising your items on.

3.

Action Cards

Before you begin, you'll need to create 10 action cards to help you structure your next steps. So grab a pen and paper (post it notes will do fine) and start writing up the words below.

LOVE
SELL
RENT
SWAP
RECYCLE
DONATE
FIX
STORE
RECYCLE
THINK

4.

Action!

Now start working through your wardrobe and assign every piece of clothing to an action card. I like to start with LOVE to affirm the pieces that are still making my heart sing. Pay special attention to pieces you won’t be wearing as the weather cools down and decide what steps you want to take with them, whether SELL, DONATE, RENT, STORE, RECYCLE... there's a positive option for every piece. If you are unsure about an item, add it to THINK and come back to it at the end.

P.S Take your time! You don't have to do your September Wardrobe Refresh in one go. Try working through it slowly over next weekend.

5.

RESTYLE!

Now for the fun bit!

With your magic mood board in sight, pull out a few pieces you want to wear for the next season as well as anything that’s ended up in your RESTYLE pile.

Have a go at trying things on in new ways, pairing them with something you haven’t tried before or giving pieces a “twist” with a new belt or fun accessory. Use magazines, Instagram, Pinterest and your mood board to help you come up with styling ideas.

Take photos of your looks and save them in a style album on your phone so you remember them on those days where you lack inspiration.

6.

Creative Curation

Now you are onto the final step - it's time to reorganise your wardrobe so that it works for you.

Try hanging your favourite jumpers on beautiful hangers.  I collect colourful crochet hangers from Ebay which are great for knitwear as they have lots of cushioning so wool doesn't pull.

What about organising your favourite outfits into complete “looks” within your wardrobe, so you can find them easily when you're in a rush? I like to colour block my wardrobe, grouping bright colours together, creating a patterns section, and keeping denims and whites in their groups and so on. This helps me put an outfit together at a glance.

Hang your favourite dresses on the front of your wardrobe so they make you happy each day and have a go at showing off your favourite earrings on a pretty plate.

There is no “right” way to organise your Creative Wardrobe – curate in whichever way brings you the most joy.
